Opmerkingen

The Shensi-Kansu-Ninghsia Border Area Bank was the financial arm of the Chinese Communist Party's wartime base centered on Yan'an, and the 1942 notes were issued during a period of severe economic pressure — a Nationalist blockade of the border region was actively cutting off external trade and supply, forcing the base area to accelerate monetary self-sufficiency. The bank had been printing its own currency since 1937, but the 1942 series came in direct response to Chiang Kai-shek's decision to terminate CCP subsidies and tighten the cordon around Yan'an.

Counterfeiting of border area notes by Nationalist agents was a documented problem throughout this period, and the Communist administration issued repeated public warnings about circulating fakes. Pick S3658 is among the higher denominations in the series, reflecting the inflationary pressure the blockade was generating by 1942.
