| 正面描述 | A large stylized chrysanthemum wreath, the imperial flower of Japan, radiates outward from the central circular hole, filling the field with densely layered petals rendered in high relief. The authority legend 日本国 (State of Japan) arcs across the upper portion of the field, with the denomination 五十円 (50 Yen) inscribed at the bottom. The entire design is framed by a beaded border running along the coin's rim. |

This issue replaced the earlier 50 yen nickel type (Y#75) when Japan's postwar economy had stabilized sufficiently to justify a redesigned coinage. The hole was dropped for this series — an unusual reversal, since Japan had been punching central holes in minor coinage since the Meiji period. The perforated format returned with the subsequent type in 1967, making this the only holed-free 50 yen in the modern series.
