Obverse description The state emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting a hydroelectric power station beneath a radiant sunburst, flanked by symmetrical sheaves of rice tied at the base with a ribbon, and surmounted by a five-pointed star. The Hangul legend 조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행 (Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) curves along the upper periphery. Two small olive branches flank the date 1995, which appears at the lower exergue.

Reverse description Two wrestlers are depicted in dynamic combat at the centre of the field, rendered in a bold, stylised relief suggestive of traditional Korean ssireum wrestling. The denomination 50 WON appears in the lower field beneath the wrestling figures.
