Ventspils, a port city on Latvia's Kurzeme coast, introduced its own local currency in 2011 as a municipal tourism promotion scheme — one of several such instruments that appeared across European cities in the early 2010s, borrowing loosely from the complementary currency movement. The "Venti" was accepted by participating local merchants and designed explicitly to keep tourist spending within the city rather than dispersing it regionally. It was never legal tender in any formal sense.

The issuing authority is the tourism information centre, not a bank or municipality, which places this firmly in souvenir/scrip territory. Redeemable only within the scheme's network of registered businesses.
