| 裏面の説明 | A partially gilt rat, rendered in fine detail and applied with selective gold gilding, is depicted in a naturalistic pose at center-right, facing left. Flanking the rat are finely engraved floral and bamboo motifs in the field, evoking a traditional East Asian artistic style. The date '1996' appears in the lower-left field, with Mongolian script inscription above it identifying the lunar year. The mirror-like proof fields provide strong contrast to the frosted design elements. |

Issued as part of Mongolia's lunar calendar series begun in the mid-1990s, this coin marks the first cycle year in a twelve-part program produced largely for the collector export market. Mongolia had virtually no domestic numismatic retail infrastructure at the time, and these issues were distributed almost entirely through European and Asian dealers.
The partial gilding was applied post-strike, a finishing technique that became standard on Mongolian commemoratives of this period largely at the insistence of foreign distributors who found gilt highlights improved secondary market appeal.
