The automatic cash dispenser provides facilities for: • dispensing up to 5 different types or sizes of bank note • use on the bank floor, or as a 24-hour outdoor service • issuing statements of account and other documents • easy operation by program control • easy inpayments with the deposit feature. Nixdorf Computer AG, headquartered in Paderborn, produced these test notes internally for calibrating and testing the cash-handling and banknote-processing machines it manufactured for banks across Europe. The word "Mustergeld" — sample money — was the explicit disclaimer against any attempt at use, however unlikely given the corporate branding.
Nixdorf was acquired by Siemens in 1990, and production of proprietary test materials under the Nixdorf name ceased shortly thereafter. Notes from this series surface occasionally in collector markets, almost always in uncirculated condition — they never left a machine room.
