Additional information

The "Vostok" in this coin's name refers to the Baikonur Cosmodrome's Vostok program legacy — Kazakhstan hosts the world's oldest operational launch facility, leased from Russia under agreements that have been renegotiated repeatedly since independence in 1991. Kazakhstan's commemorative tenge series of this period was unusually prolific, with dozens of copper-nickel issues released annually targeting thematic collectors rather than circulation. KM#202 is one of several space-themed pieces the National Bank issued as the lease disputes over Baikonur between Astana and Moscow were still being quietly litigated.
