Part of Kazakhstan's "Cities of Kazakhstan" series, this issue commemorates Taldykorgan, the administrative center of Almaty Region. The city's name derives from the Kazakh for "apple orchard," a reference to the region's historical significance in apple cultivation — the Tian Shan foothills nearby are considered one of the original wild habitats of Malus sieversii, the primary ancestor of the domestic apple.
