Kokpar — also spelled kökpar — is a Central Asian equestrian game in which riders compete to carry a goat carcass across a goal line, with roots in the nomadic steppe cultures that predate the Kazakh khanates by centuries. Kazakhstan launched a series of circulating commemoratives beginning in the 2000s to document traditional sports and games at risk of fading from practiced knowledge into folklore, and kokpar was among the most symbolically loaded choices given its direct lineage to the horse culture that defined the region's pre-Soviet identity.
