Issued in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, this coin belongs to a broader Central Asian commemorative tradition of honoring the Great Patriotic War — a conflict in which Kazakhstan contributed roughly 1.2 million soldiers, with nearly half not returning. The republic also served as a major relocation site for Soviet industry evacuated from the western USSR in 1941 and 1942.
