| Obverse description | Concave upper field of this hourglass-shaped silver sycee ingot bearing eight stamped administrative cartouches arranged across the surface in traditional regular script (kaishu). The stamps record official and logistical information pertaining to the ingot's production and certification, including the Yangzhou mint, the salt-tax office (行中書省), the names of supervising officials Wang Gui and treasury officer Wang Niwu, the silversmith Hou Junyong, the regnal date (Year 14 of Zhiyuan, corresponding to 1277), the declared weight of 50 taels, and a final assay or custodial mark. The rough, textured silver surface exhibits the characteristic flow lines and uneven casting marks typical of Yuan dynasty fiscal silver ingots, with the raised borders of each rectangular stamp cartouche standing in clear relief against the granular field. |
