Additional information

Bulgaria's post-communist coinage transition produced a run of new issues in 1992 as the country restructured its monetary system following the fall of Zhivkov's regime in 1989. The nickel brass alloy chosen for this denomination was part of a broader shift away from the nickel-clad steel used under the People's Republic, reflecting both changed sourcing relationships and the economic turbulence of early transition — annual inflation in Bulgaria reached over 80% in 1992 alone.
