Applied Currency Concepts produced a series of privately issued novelty polymer notes denominated as "State Dollars," of which this North Carolina piece is one. They carry no legal tender status and were sold as collectibles — essentially a commercial fantasy note series dressed in the visual language of official currency.
John Hamilton designed multiple pieces in the run. The polymer substrate gives these a longer shelf life than the subject probably warrants.
