The title translates as "50 Silver Coins" — the same word used for the thirty pieces of silver paid to Judas. Issued in 1984 by Poland's underground opposition network during the height of martial law's aftermath, the note was designed as a direct political indictment of collaborators with the communist regime, circulated not as currency but as agitprop printed on whatever paper and equipment the clandestine press could source.
Underground printing operations in Poland during this period faced serious risks — possession of an unlicensed duplicator was itself a criminal offence. The rough production quality was unavoidable, not incidental.
