正面描述 Black intaglio on teal underprint with red serial numbers. The left field carries an allegorical female figure holding a shield charged with five camelids alongside the Peruvian coat of arms, while a large Roman numeral L dominates the centre; a seated allegorical woman with child occupies the right vignette. The note bears the date LIMA JUNIO 30 DE 1879 and is fully executed in the fine line-engraved style characteristic of American Bank Note Company issues.

备注

Peru's 1879 fiscal emergency was acute. The War of the Pacific had just begun, and the government was already hemorrhaging silver reserves that would never recover. This 50 Soles note belongs to an emission that was effectively war finance — the state printing obligations it had no realistic plan to redeem in specie.

The American Bank Note Company had been Peru's preferred security printer since the 1860s, and the relationship continued through the war years despite the obvious logistical complications of ordering currency from New York while Chilean forces advanced northward. ABNC's engraving quality on this series is notably high given the circumstances of issue.
