Additional information

Somalia's elephant coinage occupies an odd niche: issued under licensing arrangements with a European distributor rather than through any coherent domestic monetary policy, these pieces were never meaningfully intended for Somali circulation. The country had no functioning central bank capable of administering a coin program during this period. KM#250 is part of a long-running annual series that began in 2000, with designs updated periodically to sustain collector interest in Western markets.
