Opmerkingen

Kenya's 50 shilling note occupied an awkward position in the series throughout this period — too low in value to drive significant commerce, yet too high for casual daily transactions as inflation gradually eroded its purchasing power. The Central Bank had been struggling with currency confidence since the turbulent 1990s, when Kenya's foreign exchange crisis and IMF standoffs left the shilling badly damaged in public trust.

Nahashon Nyagah served as CBK Governor from 2001 to 2010, meaning his signature spans nearly the entire print run of this issue. Thomas De La Rue has been Kenya's primary note printer since independence.
