| Obverse description | Portrait effigy of Malietoa Tanumafili II, O le Ao o le Malo (Head of State) of Samoa, facing right in the center of the field. The legend MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II arcs along the upper periphery, with SAMOA and the date flanking the lower portion of the portrait. The coin bears the name of the issuing nation reflecting the post-1997 designation SAMOA, as opposed to the earlier SAMOA I SISIFO legend used on pre-1997 issues. |
