| Obverse description | Central vertical denomination inscription in kanji reading '五十錢' (50 Sen) flanked on either side by a stylized hō-ō (phoenix), rendered in fine relief. The lower field features a paulownia (kiri) crest at centre, flanked by karakusa (arabesque vine) sprigs. A chrysanthemum blossom, the imperial seal of Japan, is prominently displayed at the top of the design, above the phoenixes. |
