Additional information

Brunei's coinage during this period was produced almost entirely by the Royal Mint in Llantrith Major, Wales — an arrangement reflecting the close administrative and military ties maintained between Brunei and Britain even after full independence was restored in 1984. The Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, established in 2011 to replace the Brunei Currency and Monetary Board, took over issuance without interrupting the series.

The second portrait replaced the first in 1993, marking a subtle but deliberate effort to update the Sultan's image after more than a decade on the coinage. Brunei does not publish official mintage figures for its circulating coinage.
