Issued to mark the fiftieth year of Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession — the longest reign of any Thai monarch and, at that point, the longest of any living head of state in the world. The jubilee itself was celebrated on June 9, 1996, drawing delegations from over 170 countries to Bangkok in what became one of the most attended royal ceremonies of the twentieth century.
