Thailand's shift to aluminium bronze for this denomination in 1957 was driven largely by the rising cost of the pure copper alloys used in earlier issues, a chronic concern for smaller denominations across Southeast Asian mints during the postwar decades. The same composition was adopted by several regional neighbors around this period for identical economic reasons.
The series ran through 1980, spanning some of the most turbulent years in Thai political history — including multiple coups and constitutional rewrites — with the mint continuing production largely uninterrupted throughout.
