| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of Emperor Haile Selassie I in high relief, depicted in a military or formal jacket with a collar and tie, engraved with fine detail by Gilroy Roberts. The effigy occupies the upper portion of the field, dominating the design with a strong, naturalistic portrait style characteristic of mid-20th century Royal Mint workmanship. Below the bust, the date in Ethiopic (Ge'ez) numerals ፲፱፻፴፮ (Ethiopian year 1936, corresponding to 1944 in the Gregorian calendar) is inscribed along the lower arc of the coin. |
