Obverse description Intaglio portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in three-quarter right-facing view occupies the right portion of the note, set against a multicolour guilloche underprint in shades of mauve and yellow. The Ashoka Pillar emblem appears at lower left alongside the denomination numeral, with the Reserve Bank of India seal at lower right. A bold intaglio numeral '50' anchors the centre field, flanked by floral vignettes and bilingual promise text in Hindi and English.
Obverse lettering भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक RESERVE BANK OF INDIA केन्द्रीय सरकार द्वारा प्रत्याभूत GUARANTEED BY THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT मैं धारक को पचास रुपये अदा करने का वचन देता हूँ I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER THE SUM OF FIFTY RUPEES पचास रुपये MAHATMA GANDHI सत्यमेव जयते
Reverse description The central vignette presents Parliament House (Sansad Bhavan), New Delhi, rendered in fine intaglio detail with its characteristic circular colonnaded facade and flagpole. A panel at the left margin carries the denomination inscription in fifteen scheduled Indian languages, while ornate floral scrollwork frames the main vignette on either side. The year of printing is inscribed at the bottom centre below the building.
