The P#50 series ran for a full decade under two consecutive governorships, which is why the same note turns up with different signature combinations — Basant Roi served as Governor from 1998 to 2007, with Gujadhur as Second Governor alongside him for part of that window. Collectors treating the signature pair as a single undifferentiated issue routinely undervalue the earlier printings.

Thomas De La Rue's involvement with Mauritian currency goes back to the 1960s, and the relationship has been essentially unbroken since. The optical variable device on this denomination was a relatively early adoption for the island's currency — the OVD feature was not applied uniformly across all denominations in the same year.
