The P#43 series was produced as Mauritius moved toward a more standardized post-independence note architecture, with Thomas De La Rue handling the full print run as they had for successive Mauritian issues through much of the latter twentieth century. The 1998 date places this squarely in a period of relative monetary stability for the island, with no unusual emergency or transitional pressures driving its production.
Signatures of D. Maraye as Governor and B. Gujadhur as Second Governor fix the note to a narrow administrative window. The watermark remains the primary security measure — modest by the standards De La Rue was already applying elsewhere at the time.
