Issued in 1918 by the Financial Commission of the Batalpashinsk-Pyatigorsk Detachment of the Volunteer Army, this note belongs to one of the more chaotic episodes of White Army field finance during the Russian Civil War. As Denikin's forces pushed through the North Caucasus, individual detachments frequently issued their own scrip when central supply of Volunteer Army currency couldn't keep pace with territorial gains. The Kislovodsk branch of the State Bank served as institutional cover, but these were effectively emergency military instruments.
Authentication relied on an applied official stamp rather than any sophisticated printing security — which made counterfeiting a persistent problem and legitimate examples genuinely difficult to verify today.
