Belarus launched its extensive wildlife bullion program in the mid-2000s partly to generate hard currency through collector sales abroad — the domestic market had neither the appetite nor the means for gold issues at this price point. The peregrine falcon had been listed as a protected species in Belarus since the Soviet period, and the coin was issued in coordination with national conservation efforts, a pairing that gave the series modest diplomatic utility beyond pure numismatics.
