The Terek People's Republic was a short-lived Soviet-aligned state established in early 1918 in the North Caucasus, dissolved by 1920 as the Red Army consolidated control over the region. Its paper money existed in a chaotic monetary environment where Bolshevik, White Army, and various local issues all circulated simultaneously — acceptance depended on geography and whoever held a gun nearby.
Local issues from this period were typically printed under severe material constraints, and the Terek series is no exception. Counterfeiting was rampant across all North Caucasian issues of 1918–1919, and distinguishing period fakes from genuine notes requires attention to paper feel and impression depth rather than design alone.
