The date 1893 appears below the crown in bold numerals, flanked on either side by small ornamental rosette devices. The circular legend CARLOS I REI DE PORTUGAL runs along the periphery, interrupted at the base by a small mint letter. The entire design is contained within a finely beaded inner border. |
