| Obverse description | A large Portuguese royal crown with cross surmount occupies the center of the field, rendered in fine relief with detailed fluting, arches, and jeweled band. The date 1893 appears below the crown in bold numerals, flanked on either side by small ornamental rosette devices. The circular legend CARLOS I REI DE PORTUGAL runs along the periphery, interrupted at the base by a small mint letter. The entire design is contained within a finely beaded inner border. |
