Reverse description The central field displays a quartered shield of Castile and León set within a prominent quatrefoil or polylobed cartouche, the quarters alternating between the castle of Castile and the rampant lion of León, all within a double beaded inner circle. The date 1626 appears prominently in the upper portion of the legend field between the inner and outer borders. The circumferential Latin legend HISPANIARVM REX, meaning King of the Spains, runs along the periphery separated by small rosette stops, enclosed between two concentric beaded circles and an outer milled border. The reverse design is characteristically clean and bold, reflecting the quality achievable with the screw or roller press technology employed at Segovia.
