The 2nd Family series replaced Brazil's inaugural Real notes gradually from 2010, introducing upgraded security alongside the same base designs carried over from the 1990s originals. Four distinct signature combinations appear across the P#256 run, reflecting genuine ministerial turnover — Guido Mantega served as Finance Minister under both Lula and Dilma Rousseff, while the Levy and Barbosa signatures correspond to the turbulent 2015–2016 period of fiscal crisis and Rousseff's eventual impeachment. Notes signed by Nelson Barbosa are the most narrowly dated of the group; he held the post for under eight months.
