The Big Five Series II follows South Africa's long-running bullion tradition established by the Krugerrand in 1967, but targets a collector-investor crossover market that the Krugerrand's purely bullion positioning never fully served. Each annual release in the series rotates animal subjects, with the African Elephant issue drawing consistent secondary market demand — elephant-themed South African gold has historically moved faster at auction than other subjects in comparable series.
