| 背面描述 | The reverse features a dramatic hunting scene in high relief, depicting a cheetah in full stride pursuing a leaping antelope (springbok), with both animals rendered with exceptional naturalistic detail against a mirror-polished field. Sweeping curved lines in the background suggest speed and motion. A smaller cheetah cub is depicted in the lower right field. The denomination 'R50' is inscribed in large stylised script at the upper centre, with the fineness and weight designation '1/2 Oz Au 999.9' arcing along the upper border. The series name 'NATURA' is inscribed in large bold letters across the lower left field. |

The Natura series launched in 1994 as South Africa's fine-gold wildlife bullion program, deliberately positioned apart from the Krugerrand's investment market by targeting collectors willing to pay a premium for rotating fauna subjects. The Cheetah was a natural choice for the series — South Africa holds one of the continent's remaining viable wild populations, concentrated largely in the Limpopo and Northern Cape regions, though numbers had already declined sharply by the time this coin was struck.
The 2002 issue corresponds to a single-year Cheetah theme within the Natura calendar, making it non-repeating within the series and relatively finite in mintage by design.
