Egypt's administrative capital relocation project — announced in 2015 and still incomplete at the time this coin entered circulation — prompted one of the more unusual commemorative circulation issues in recent Egyptian numismatic history. The decision to mint a circulating denomination around an unfinished city reflected the government's political investment in the project, a $58 billion development undertaken largely through military-affiliated construction entities.
KM#1033 is a relatively recent addition to the Egyptian circulation series and sees little collector premium at present.
