Pattern coins from the Bank of Sudan's 2001 series were produced as proposed circulation trials during a period when Sudan's monetary system was still stabilizing after the introduction of the second Sudanese pound in 1992. Most patterns from this issue never advanced to circulation, leaving surviving specimens almost exclusively in institutional or specialist collections.
