| Obverse description | Central design features an outline map of Sudan with the Arabic motto reading 'Independence, Unity, Production' inscribed within the map's interior. Flanking the map at left and right are the Gregorian years 1956 and 1989, respectively, referencing the anniversary span of independence. A decorative border of beading runs along all eight sides of the octagonal flan. The curved Arabic commemorative legend arcs across the upper field, reading 'Thirty-third Anniversary of Independence 1956–1989.'
