| 正面描述 | Central depiction of the Bank of Sudan building rendered in fine line engraving, presented in three-quarter perspective within the octagonal field. Below the building, a decorative sprig of grain or foliage extends horizontally across the lower field. The dual-dated inscription in Arabic script appears below the central motif, citing both the Hijri and Gregorian years. A dashed decorative border runs along the inner edge of all eight sides of the coin. |

Sudan's 1987 coinage came at a moment of acute economic strain — the country was carrying one of the largest debt burdens in sub-Saharan Africa, and the Sudanese pound was under sustained devaluation pressure throughout the mid-1980s. The choice of nickel brass over a silver or higher-nickel alloy reflects the Central Bank's cost-cutting constraints during this period, not a deliberate compositional preference.
The 50 qirsh represented half a pound at issuance, but purchasing power erosion was already making coins of this denomination largely symbolic in daily transactions by the late 1980s.
