Azerbaijan declared independence from the Soviet Union in August 1991, and the 1992 coinage series represented the new republic's first attempt at a domestic currency before the manat system was fully stabilized. The KM#Pn10 designation places this piece among the pattern issues — it was never released into general circulation, making survivors a product of official distribution rather than pocket wear.
The bimetallic construction was ambitious for a newly independent state still dependent on Soviet-era minting infrastructure.
