| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a finely engraved depiction of the colossal seated statue of Ramses II, shown in left profile, wearing the nemes headdress and the double crown, with arms crossed over the chest holding the crook and flail, royal regalia of pharaonic authority. The enthroned figure is rendered in the style of ancient Egyptian monumental sculpture, seated upon a cubic throne with hieroglyphic inscriptions visible on the side. A small subsidiary figure of a queen or prince stands between the feet of the colossus at the base of the throne, emphasizing the monumental scale of the composition. The design occupies the left and central portion of the field against a deeply mirrored proof background, enclosed by a beaded border. The Arabic legend 'رمسيس الثاني' and the Latin inscription 'RAMSES II' identify the subject. |

Egypt's gold commemorative program of the late 1990s drew heavily on pharaonic iconography as the country positioned tourism as a central economic driver following the disruptions of the Gulf War years.
