| Obverse description | Central design features a stylised winged eagle emblem of Egypt, with outstretched wings and a cartouche bearing the country's name in Arabic calligraphy at the centre. The denomination '50' and the value in Arabic script appear prominently above the eagle in the upper field, flanked by the dual date '١٤١٠ / ١٩٩٠' (AH 1410 / AD 1990). Curved Arabic legends reading 'جمهورية مصر العربية' (Arab Republic of Egypt) arc across the upper portion, while the lower legend 'كأس العالم الرابع عشر لكرة القدم' (XIV Football World Cup) runs along the lower border. The coin's periphery is framed by a decorative reeded and beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Egypt issued this coin to commemorate the 1990 FIFA World Cup held in Italy — one of several Arab nations that produced gold commemoratives for that tournament. The Egyptian squad failed to qualify, having last appeared in a World Cup final in 1990 after a 56-year absence that ended only when they qualified for Mexico 1986.
