Issued to commemorate the 1990 FIFA World Cup held in Italy, this coin was part of Egypt's broader commemorative gold program of the late 1980s and early 1990s — a period when the Central Bank produced a succession of collector-oriented issues largely aimed at foreign buyers and hard-currency markets rather than domestic circulation.
