Reverse description A faithful recreation of William Wyon's celebrated 1839 Una and the Lion design, depicting a standing female figure representing Una — an allegory of Queen Victoria and Britain — robed in a flowing classical gown and wearing a small crown, her right hand resting upon the mane of a large lion walking to the left at her side, while her left hand holds an orb. The Latin motto DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS (May God direct my steps) arcs around the upper field, divided by the central group. The denomination FIFTY POUNDS appears in bold relief within the lower exergue. A beaded border encircles the entire composition, and the engraver's monogram is visible on the exergual line.
