| Obverse description | Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the third portrait by Raphael David Maklouf, depicting the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem and a draped neckline with a pearl necklace. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the left rim and 'ALDERNEY' along the right rim, both in raised Latin lettering. The date '2005' appears in the lower exergue. The initials 'RDM' attributing the engraver are discreetly positioned below the truncation of the bust. The portrait is rendered with fine detail against a deeply mirrored field. |

| Additional information |
Issued to mark the bicentennial of the Battle of Trafalgar, fought on 21 October 1805, where Nelson's fleet destroyed the combined Franco-Spanish force under Villeneuve without losing a single ship to the enemy — though Nelson himself was killed by a French sharpshooter aboard the Bucentaure before the outcome was decided. Alderney, as a Crown Dependency lying closer to the Normandy coast than to England, occupies a geographically pointed position from which to issue such a commemorative.
The kilogram format places this firmly in the collector bullion category rather than anything approaching circulation intent.
