Reverse description The reverse, designed by David Lawrence, presents a bold and dynamic composition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944. Dominating the central field is a highly detailed depiction of a British Army sergeant in full battle dress, steel helmet, and full equipment, advancing forward with a rifle at the ready. Behind him, the Normandy beach assault scene unfolds: landing craft, beach obstacles, and additional soldiers wading ashore are rendered in lower relief. The large inscription 'D·DAY' arcs prominently across the upper field, flanked by the dates '1944' and '2014', with the denomination '£50' inscribed to the right. A scroll at the base of the design bears the legend '70th ANNIVERSARY'.
