Additional information

The Gold State Coach depicted here has carried every British monarch to their coronation since George IV in 1821, but its mechanical reputation is notoriously poor — Queen Victoria reportedly found it intolerably uncomfortable, and the vehicle rocks so severely at any speed above a walk that coachmen are instructed never to exceed that pace. Charles III rode in it to Westminster Abbey in May 2023, the first coronation procession of its kind in seventy years.

Guernsey has no formal obligation to mirror Royal Mint commemorative programs, which gives the island's issues an occasionally independent character. This gold proof is one of several competing commemoratives across Crown Dependencies marking the same event.
