Additional information

Charles III acceded to the throne in September 2022, making 2023 the first full year of his coinage — the first new British monarch on circulating and bullion issues since Elizabeth II's portrait was introduced in 1953. The Royal Mint moved quickly to establish his effigy across the full bullion range, with Martin Jennings' portrait adopted as the definitive obverse type after a formal selection process overseen by the coin advisory committee.

The .9999 fineness distinguishes this from older Britannia gold issues, which were struck at .9167 until the purity upgrade in 2013.
