Reverse description The reverse is printed in dark blue and pale green, centred on a large intaglio vignette of a bearded male river-god — a personification of the River Shannon — rendered as a classical bust within a shaped cartouche, his head crowned with aquatic foliage and surmounted by a trident. Below the vignette the denomination £50 is set in bold numerals within a guilloche panel, and the entire design is enclosed by an intricate Celtic-style lace border with rosette corner ornaments.
