Obverse description The obverse bears a vignette of the Philae Temple at left, rendered in fine intaglio engraving, flanked by an ornate guilloche border. The centre carries the English promise text 'I promise to pay the Bearer on Demand FIFTY EGYPTIAN POUNDS' alongside bilingual Arabic and English inscriptions, with the issuing authority 'NATIONAL BANK OF EGYPT' across the top. The denomination '50' appears in numerals at lower left and upper right corners, with serial numbers and a manuscript date line reading 'Cairo 16th July, 1906'.
